Eco- fleet development

Moving towards eco-mobility in public transport, we have adopted greener drive systems and alternative fuels for the last years. Our fleet has currently 66 Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses, and more than 740 electric buses. Each electric bus will help decarbonize urban transportation everyday by approximately 0.8 tons. They also run with massively reduced noise to address noise pollution in the city. These vehicles will make Qatar the first country in the region to run such an eco-fleet for public transport.

We also aim to minimize emissions from our school buses, so we have acquired a fleet of diesel buses with Euro 5 standards. They are equipped with one of the latest filtration systems to remove particulate matter from exhausts, reducing it to the equivalent of one grain of sand per kilometer driven. Those are all equipped with ‘AdBlue’ technology, which is an agent that is injected into the exhaust pipeline of diesel fueled buses. In a chemical reaction it additionally reduces the release of harmful pollutants into the atmosphere. As a first-of-its-kind in the region, we built a dedicated AdBlue filling station for large-scale bus operations. Moreover, all Karwa City taxis have been replaced with a hybrid fleet. Each hybrid taxi saves around 12,000 kg of CO2 per year. And a new fleet of electric limousines constitutes another step towards a fully emission-free public transport system.

Digital solutions for more efficiency

Effectiveness is key. As one of the main transport providers in the country we understand our responsibility to establish a sustainable operations framework. In this field, digital solutions are widely underestimated: latest technology across all our operations in coordination with the latest smart fleet systems build the backbone of our safe and efficient transport services. Those systems report malfunctioning of vehicles, schedule regular maintenance and ensure that unnecessary runs are cut out.  They model passenger flows and even streamline internal processes. In other words – digital solutions help us to set out for a highly efficient, integrated network with less emissions and cleaner air.
